What could be an animal emergency?
- Severe bleeding or bleeding that doesn't stop within 5 minutes
- Choking, difficulty breathing or nonstop coughing and gagging
- Bleeding from nose, mouth, rectum, coughing up blood, or blood in urine
- Inability to urinate or pass feces (stool), or obvious pain associated with urinating or passing stool
- Injuries to your pet's eye(s)
- You suspect or know your pet has eaten something poisonous (such as antifreeze, xylitol, chocolate, rodent poison, etc.)
- Seizures and/or staggering
- Fractured bones, severe lameness or inability to move leg(s)
- Obvious signs of pain or extreme anxiety
- Heat stress or heatstroke
- Severe vomiting or diarrhea – more than 2 episodes in a 24-hour period, or either of these combined with obvious illness or any of the other problems listed here
- Refusal to drink for 24 hours or more
Emergency Surgical Care
At ABC Animal and Bird Clinic in Sugar Land, our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance. We have the capability of performing surgeries with a minimally invasive laser scalpel to avoid blood loss and improve wound healing.
The ABC Animal and Bird Clinic surgical facility is equipped with during and after surgery monitoring and recovery procedures that will help ensure the overall safety of the procedures we perform.
For greater peace of mind, ABC Animal and Bird Clinic in Sugar Land uses X-ray and ultrasound to we can thoroughly and accurately diagnose and pin-point internal functionality from the cardiovascular to the gastrointestinal systems and many more!
We can also perform endoscopic procedures as part of our animal surgical services. With this type of technology we can see the inside of the digestive and respiratory systems, properly diagnose anomalies and accurately treat them.
Animal Emergencies during office hours
Will be treated in our office.
Monday through Friday from 7:00am until 7:00pm
Saturdays from 8:00am until 5:00pm
Sundays from 1:00pm until 5:00pm
After hours animal emergencies
Will be treated at Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists: 281-491-7800.
For after-hours emergency care, we refer all of our dog and cat patients to Sugar Land Veterinary Specialists located at 1515 Lake Pointe Parkway in Sugar Land. They are located behind the Whole Foods parking lot at Highway 6 and Highway 59. Their contact number is 713-693-1133.
In house pharmacy and Laboratory.
We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We also carry a full line of prescription diets.
Animal Recovery Quarters
ABC Animal and Bird Clinic animal recovery center for those after emergency situations.
Our Sugar Land Animal Clinic is equipped with heated recovery cages specifically designed with our exotic patients in mind. Incubators that control heat, humidity and oxygen are available for those in critical care. They are always closely monitored so you can have peace of mind knowing that your loved companion is in good hands with our veterinarians and technicians.Read more
